Nam Phut Thap Lao arboretum was established in 1993 in the area of Phu Sam Phak Nam national reserved forest. The topography of the area is plain at the foot of the hill. There is a large spring of water in the middle of the clear, clean pond without smell, flowing like a stream in sandy gravel. The forest condition is mixed forest. It has a territory covering forest areas in Khon San, Kaset Somboon and Nong Bua Daeng districts. It has an area of approximately 1,800 km2, taking care of wildlife conservation, cultivation and propagation of wild animals.
